Module Group B
Advanced Studies
The students select two out of the four following fields of study. In each field two modules have to be selected. Each module consists of two components. Thus the students can select different foci according to region, subject, and theoretical approach.
The following four module groups are offered:
1. National, ethnic, cultural and religious identities in Eastern Europe: module Ia and b
Fields of study are: theories of state- und nation-building, concepts of ethnicity and locality, culture and transfer of cultural standards, confession-building.
2. Territories and frontiers in Eastern Europe: module IIa and b
Fields of study are: territories and frontiers, concepts of European identity in the context of Western and Eastern Europe as well as of Europe and Asia, cultural landscapes and their representations, cultural limits, frontier districts.
3. Literature and discourse in and on Eastern Europe: module IIIa and b
Fields of study are: eastern, western and southern Slavic languages and literatures, including their dialogues with the Romance, Turkish (Ottoman), Finno-Hungarian and Germanic languages and literatures of the region, political and social impact of language and literature.
4. Internal and external conflicts in Eastern Europe: module IVa and b
Fields of study are: theories of power and conflict, fields and methods of domestic and foreign policy within zones of political and religious conflicts, national and linguistic antagonism, utraquism, and minority cultures.
