Feminist Perspectives on Supererogation
Feminist perspectives represent a research desideratum in moral philosophical supererogation research. The debate has so far focused on the definition of the category of supererogation, its theoretical justification and accompanying critique of modern moral philosophy. However, the perception what goes beyond duty is for instance also influenced by gender roles. The project “Feminist Perspectives on Supererogation”, thus, focusses on challenges and potentials that feminist perspectives hold for supererogation research.
Within the project, a workshop on “Supererogation: Feminist Perspectives” has already been held at the 2022 GAP Annual Congress as well as a panel on “40 years of Susan Wolf’s ‘Moral Saints’ – A Rereading” at the 2022 Practical Philosophy Conference. Furthermore, a special issue on “Supererogation: Feminist Perspectives” is planned for the Zeitschrift für Ethik und Moralphilosophie [Journal of Ethics and Moral Philosophy].
Prof. Dr. Karoline Reinhardt conducts this project in cooperation with Dr. Katharina Naumann (University of Magdeburg) and Prof. Dr. Marie-Luise Raters (University of Potsdam).
