technikethikwerkstatt (technology and ethics laboratory)

A fascination for technology and an awareness of the ethical limitations - the technikethikwerkstatt aims to convey both to youngsters and students. In seminars and workshops, young people intensively study the sustainable and responsible use technical innovations.
The project
The technikethikwerkstatt is an interdisciplinary laboratory on the premises of the Wissenswerkstatt e.V. ("knowledge lab") association in Passau, where researchers from the University of Passau impart a combination of technical and philosophical know-how in seminars and workshops. Youngsters aged 8 to 18 can go there to learn about the sustainable and responsible use of technology.
The aim is to link Wissenswerkstatt e.V., the University of Passau and the schools of the district to educate the young generation in the responsible use of technology. Youngsters reflect intensively on the conditions for and effects of technological innovation, which may potentially provide a basis for their own inventions. The seminars of the technikethikwerkstatt may also lead to new teaching and learning opportunities at universities, schools and in students’ and school pupils’ leisure time.
Supporting organisations
The project is funded by the EU’s LEADER programme for innovative rural development as well as the Hans Sauer Foundation and Wissenswerkstatt Passau e.V.
