Work experience
Gaining work experience is part and parcel of academic study and rounds out a university's study programme. The benefits are clear, as this gives you an opportunity to apply theory in practice and to reflect on theory in practice

Bachelor's and master's degree programmes
Students enrolled in the bachelor's and master's degree programmes are required to find their own internships/industrial placements, as this forms part of the application process. That said, it goes without saying that they are not left to their own devices. In their search, they can always rely on the extensive support provided by the University’s Centre for Careers and Competencies and the kuwi network (only in German). Both of these institutions publish a weekly newsletter with an updated list of currently available internships in Germany and abroad.
To have internships approved, submit the following documents to the competent internship officer once the relevant internship has been completed:
- an internship report drawn up by yourself stating the exact duration of the internship;
- the formal request for approval of the internship (only in German);
- a copy of the internship certificate.
The required minimum period for internships is defined in the study and examination regulations.
The Centre for Careers and Competencies provides interesting facts in its 'Everything you wanted to know about internships'. This is where you will find: information about and forms for internships in Germany and abroad, a jobs board, internship recommendations, internship approvals and internship agreements.
According to Art. 48 of the Bavarian Higher Education Act (BayHschG), students may request leave of absence from their studies for valid reasons. The completion of an internship in Germany or abroad is considered a legitimate reason, provided the internship takes up over 50% of the teaching period. Please contact the Student Registration office for specific legal information, deadlines and the application form.
