Students of the chair can carry out projects in refugee aid
The first projects were completed as part of the project seminar "Studying and Engaging - Interculturality in the Context of Refugee Migration", in which students are to combine theoretical knowledge on interculturality and migration with practical projects in refugee aid. For example, a group of students, together with the association "Living and Learning Together in Europe" and the city of Passau, created a housing guide for refugees who have to move out of shared accommodation. The guide provides initial orientation on finding housing, financial aid and living together in shared accommodation and will be translated into various languages. In addition, a collection of challenges between volunteers and refugees has been compiled, which will serve as a basis for workshops and intercultural trainings. If interested please contact Madeleine Bausch.
In the second round of the project seminar, three more projects are currently in the works: a platform for placing young refugees in shared flats, a bicycle café where refugees and Germans can do handicrafts together, and an initiative where young people are to support unaccompanied minor refugees in pursuing a hobby or interest.Further rounds of the seminar are taking place in cooperation with the Chamber of Handicrafts Nierebayern Oberpfalz. Here, a brochure on intercultural challenges in the integration of refugees into the skilled trades, an explanatory video for refugees and an app "Are you fit for the German employer? Furthermore, a game for vocational schools is to be developed, which will allow cultural specifics in the context of training to be learned in a playful way, a part of the Survival Kit Germany together with the ESG Passau, a measure to accompany refugees in their studies and the development of an intercultural bridge-building programme.
The sustainability of the projects and the creation of intercultural contact zones are important. The implementation of the project can be credited towards the obligatory project certificate in the Master ICBS. For this, a seminar certificate (10 ECTS) can be acquired on the one hand and the above-mentioned project certificate (4 ECTS) on the other. For students from other disciplines, e.g. business administration, the seminar certificate and the certificate on the implementation of a project can be acquired without the 4 ECTS being credited. If you have any questions, do not hestitate to contact Martina Maletzky.
